How to Password-Protect a PDF Document

Password protection is essential for contracts, personal data, and any document that should not be readable by unauthorized parties. An encrypted file can safely be emailed or stored in the cloud.

Encrypting a PDF transforms its content into unreadable data that can only be decrypted with the correct password. The AES-256 standard is used – the same algorithm as in banking systems. Without the password, reading the document is computationally infeasible.

Remember or store your password securely – the service does not retain passwords and cannot recover them. If the password is lost, the file cannot be read.

Practical tip: when sharing a protected file, send the password via a separate channel – a phone call or a different messenger. This protects against interception if the email with the PDF is misdirected.
